Parish Elementary School (Kindergarten through 8th Grade)
St. Gerard Majella Parish School is an archdiocesan parochial Catholic school for children of parishioners in grades K-8. In addition to core subjects, specialty teachers are employed for Art, Music, PE, Computer, and Spanish.
Additional support staff includes a Coordinator of Religious Education, a Learning Consultant, a Resource Room teacher, Primary aides, a part-time school counselor, and a school nurse. Principal and teachers hold current certification with the state of Missouri. Special features include weekly all-school and monthly level Masses, a local TV station with daily broadcasts by student anchors and technicians, internet access throughout the building, computerized library, and Middle School Leadership program. Kirkwood YMCA provides K-8 school-age childcare on site.
St. Gerard Majella School is accredited by the National Federation of Non-Public School State Accrediting Association, which is recognized by the state of Missouri Education Department. Visit our website (www.sgmschool.org). Alliance of Parent and Teachers (APT)
The Alliance of Parents and Teachers is a very active group that provides many valuable services to the school including recruiting and coordinating parent volunteers to assist the teachers with various programs. They provide Room Parents, organize the Buzz Book, assist with special school activities, host teacher luncheons, and do many other projects for the school.
In addition, this organization also sponsors fundraisers that benefit the school. All school parents are automatically members of the APT and invited to attend regularly scheduled meetings. Your presence at these meetings is important to us and instrumental in building a home/school partnership that improves our school and benefits the children. The School Board is the school’s representative body for identifying and articulating the educational needs and aspirations of the parish elementary full time school. The School Board acts in the advisory capacity to the pastor and the staff of St. Gerard Majella in accomplishing the educational and formational mission of the full time school within the parish.
The Parish School of Religion assists families with the religious formation of their children enrolled in first through eighth grade in public or private non-Catholic schools. The program is designed to foster full and active participation in the life and mission of the Roman Catholic Church through experiences in prayer, scripture, religious study, and participation in the sacramental life of the parish. Classes are generally held once per week September through May. Grades 1 through 6 meet on Sunday 9:50 - 11:05 am or Monday from 5:30 - 6:45 pm. Grades 7 and 8 meet on Monday from 5:30 - 6:45 pm.
PSR Parent Committee
This committee is designed to provide a link between the Program coordinator and the parents and to facilitate communication, classroom support, hospitality and other forms of assistance as needed. Pre-School Parish School of Religion
Preschool PSR is an opportunity for young children to come together to share Bible stories, games, songs, and prayers while other family members are attending 10:00 a.m. Mass. Preschool PSR runs from October through May. Pre-registration is required. Youth Ministry
We are a community of teens, grades 7 and 8, high school students, adults and parents, centered on and strengthened by the Eucharist. We provide opportunities for our youth to encounter Christ through spiritual, service and social activities. We encourage each other in living out our great Catholic faith. Vacation Bible School (VBS)
VBS is held during the summer for one week from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon for children who will be entering Pre-Kindergarten to Grade Six in the fall. Parent Coordinators, with assistance from the Director of Religious Education, plan and execute a program designed to draw the children of the parish closer to Jesus Christ through prayer, Bible stories, songs, crafts, and games. Volunteer opportunities are available for adults and youth of the parish age 13 (entering 7th grade) and above. Athletic Program for Youths
Organized primarily for the youth of the parish, we welcome children from the area to participate on the teams. Any adult, male or female is encouraged to participate in these programs as coaches or commissioners. Contact: Jim O’Hallaron at 314-966-8598.

Cub Scouts
Pack 685 is an active fun-filled program for boys starting in grade 1 through the spring of 5th grade. Tiger Cub dens are for 1st graders. Cub dens are for 2nd and 3rd graders, Webelo dens for 4th and 5th graders. They have monthly den meetings as well as pack meetings when the entire pack gets together for programs and special events.
Boy Scouts
Troop 685 is offered to all boys from the spring of 5th grade to age 18. All-age boys working together to run one troop under the guidance of the Scoutmasters and the Parent Committee.
Some of the activities are monthly troop meetings, patrol leader planing meetings, service opportunities to the community and parish, weekend camp outings, merit badges, week long summer camps, fundraisers, leadership training and FUN! Girl Scouts
Sponsored by the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri, District 6 this group is open to all girls of the parish. Our school sponsors Daisies, Brownies, Juniors and Cadettes. Daisy Troops are open to girls in grades K-1; Brownie Troops are for girls in grades 2-3; Junior Troops are available for grades 4-5; Cadette Troops include girls in grades 6-8. Each Scout troop meets an average of 1 time a month, and also takes periodic field trips. Bible Study
Make your faith come alive! Through study and reflection on Sacred Scripture, using an easy to read commentary, we listen and respond to the message of the inspired Word of God. We have two groups, one meets Tuesday mornings, the other meets on Wednesday evenings. An additional series is also arranged on occasion. All materials are provided. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults helps a person never baptized, baptized in another Christian tradition, or those baptized Catholic, but not raised Catholic, better understand the Catholic Faith. We listen to God, to the wisdom of the tradition of the Catholic Church and to each other. Rite of Christian Initiation of Children (RCIC)
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Children is the process of preparing children and teens for receiving the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, Reconciliation and Eucharist. The type and length of this process depends on the age and needs of the individual and parental support. Striving, under the direction of the Holy Spirit, to present regular and enriching opportunities for the deepening, renewal and growth of individual as well as community spirituality for our parish family of St. Gerard Majella.
